![]() Puerto Vallarta is set at the heart of Bandera’s Bay, one of the larges bays in the world. The bay is divided between the Mexican States of Jalisco and Nayarit. The north coast, including Nuevo Vallarta, La Cruz and Punta de Mita, are part of Nayarit. The southern coast, which includes Puerto Vallarta, Mismaloya, Boca de Tomatlan and the southernmost beaches, are part of the State of Jalisco. Due to climate and other factors, the bay is a natural paradise, especially for water sports and activities. Boating is essential for enjoying the bay to its fullest, and fun hot spots are all over the bay. For those who enjoy scuba and snorkeling, there are many beaches which are perfect. Hot spots include El Chimo, Tecomate, Las Animas, Quimixto, Yelapa, and especially Los Arcos. On the north coast, The Marietas Islands are the best spot for scuba and snorkeling, nearby beaches such as El Burro and Destiladeras are the perfect outing. Whale watching can be done during the winter months. Dolphins are sighted year round. There are 50 dolphins pods of up to 100 individuals, which explain why there are no sharks in the bay. It is the most unspoiled reef area in the bay, and has some of the best snorkeling and scuba in the world. Also home to the rare blue footed booby. ![]() Los Arcos is a set of unique rock formations south of Puerto Vallarta. It is a national park, and a perfect spot for scuba and snorkeling. One of the most important landmarks of Bandera’s Bay. ![]() The southern coast of the Bay begins at Boca de Tomatlan, Beautiful beaches, surrounded by lush, green jungles: Quimixto, Las Animas, yelapa and Colomitos.
