Los Cabos is one of the 5 municipalities in the State of Baja California Sur. San Jose del Cabo is the head of it, a place that maintains its quiet provincial aspect. Cabo San Lucas, a tourist bastion that has a modern infrastructure, is only 32 kilometers away from San Jose del Cabo. Due to climate and other factors, Los Cabos is a sparkling gem, a world of extreme contrast between the arid desert and a sea teeming with life, indeed, with the largest marine bio-diversity on earth. Water sports and activities are a must. Boating is essential for enjoying Los Cabos and its many fun hot spots. For those who enjoy scuba and snorkeling, there are many beaches which are perfect. Hot spots include Punta Gorda, El Arco, Cabo Pulmo and Santa María Bay. As a matter of fact, the entire coastline at the tip of Baja California Sur is a protected Marine reserve (which means fishing must be done some distance offshore), making it one of the most intact ecosystems in the world. With some of the best fishing on the globe at the Golden Gate, Gordo and Jaime banks, as well as Punta Gordo, angling is very attractive. Whale watching can be done during the winter months. The grey whales are gentle enough to touch, but hands off, because their skin is extremely allergic to human germs. Dolphins are sighted year round. Los Cabos has many places to go.
